Science

6th Grade Course Description:

From a grain of sand to the vast universe, science uncovers secrets around you and me. The sixth grade science course requires learners to conduct experiments, which will require mathematical calculations, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and critical thinking skills. Throughout the year, learners will apply these skills as they investigate force and motion, classification of organisms, animals, weather and climate, fungi, protists and plants.

7th Grade Course Description:

The seventh-grade science course expands on previously learned skills for mathematical calculations, qualitative and quantitative research methods, and critical thinking. Throughout the year, learners will apply these skills as they investigate chemistry, properties of matter, cells, genetics, the scientific method, and ecology. Saddle up and prepare for a wild ride!

8th Grade Course Description:

Eight grade Science is an exciting course, mixed with both new and familiar concepts. We will begin the year with lab safety and then move towards physical science themes such as Newton’s Law of Motion and the electromagnetic spectrum. We will also examine Earth’s history, systems and processes and its place in the Universe. Along the way, we will be using the engineering and design process to incorporate many hands-on activities and experiences. Literacy is a large component of this class, so it should be expected that we will read, write and create using science concepts and vocabulary.

Classroom Happenings

6th Grade Science:

This upcoming week we will continue to discuss how scientists classify and name organisms. We will specifically look at taxonomy and binomial nomenclature. Please remind your student to review his/her notes each night and of the notebook/agenda checks on Fridays!

7th Grade Science:

Learners are studying the transference of energy within an ecosystem, as well as the variety of roles organisms play. Please remind your student to review his/her notes each night and of the notebook/agenda checks on Fridays!
